Compact Launch 21 October 2009
The South Lanarkshire Compact was officially launched at Rutherglen Town Hall on Wednesday 21st October with around 100 representatives from dozens of different voluntary and community organisations on hand to show their support.
The first two signatories to add their names to the Compact were the Leader of South Lanarkshire Council Councillor Eddie McAvoy and South Lanarkshire Partnership Voluntary Sector Representative Bill Craw.
Councillor McAvoy said: “South Lanarkshire Council recognises the vital role the community and voluntary sector plays in making this area a great place to live and work and the signing of the Compact is far more than a symbolic gesture as this is not a glossy document that will go and gather dust on a shelf but an ongoing process where we must work together to identify and tackle issues.”
Bill Craw said: “In my experience we in the voluntary sector in South Lanarkshire already enjoy enviable links with the public sector and this Compact will further strengthen those bonds.”
“I am signing this document in the firm belief that it will ensure we make the best use of resources and I would strongly urge other members of the voluntary sector to sign up.”
Following on from Councillor McAvoy and Mr Craw signing the South Lanarkshire Compact representatives of more than 40 local organisations came forward to add their names.
If your organisation wishes to sign up to it then contact Stephen McGinty, Compact Development Officer, at 01698 201612.
