South Lanarkshire Compact

Our Vision

The Compact is a partnership agreement between South Lanarkshire’s voluntary sector and public agencies.

Our collective vision is for a thriving, connected and sustainable voluntary sector, working in partnership with the public agencies in South Lanarkshire, to deliver improved resources, activities, and services, which enhance and increase the quality of life for local people and their communities.

Background to the Compact

The voluntary sector is a key player in addressing many of South Lanarkshire’s economic and social issues. The sector often works with the hardest to reach and most vulnerable in local communities.

The public sector is responsible for statutory services, such as education, health, policing, and social work as well as having lead responsibility for most of the local plans and strategies required by legislation.

Both of our sectors share common goals. We need to work together if effective solutions to the key issues facing South Lanarkshire are to be found. The public sector has a track record of investing in, and delivering to communities.

This is complemented by the voluntary sector’s track record of innovation and creativity in the development and delivery of services and, by its nature, can be more flexible and responsive than the public sector.

The Compact describes agreed principles for working together effectively in South Lanarkshire. The Compact expresses our shared interests and recognises our respective roles and differences. There is recognition of the independence of the voluntary sector with a commitment to wide and structured consultation.

It is recognised that partners in the Compact will have an equal voice and will share the key values which underpin this Compact including respect, accountability, transparency, honesty and integrity.
